Cool Fishing Cabin on Big Horse Creek

Some projects feel special from the start. We had the opportunity to collaborate with a good friend on the design of a fishing cabin in Ashe County, nestled in the mountains near Lansing.

The vision was simple: create a cabin that fits naturally into the mountain landscape while offering a modern, open interior. Traditional materials on the outside ground it in the local context, while clean lines and contemporary details make the inside feel bright and fresh.

This is the first in a series of cabins planned for the property—and it became the model for a small community of modern retreats. Built in 2025, it’s already proving that rustic character and modern comfort can coexist.

A big thank you to Ashe County permitting—we had a smooth review process, and our documents were approved with no revisions needed.

We can’t wait to see more of these cabins come to life along Big Horse Creek.
